The memory of Sojourner Truth was kept
alive, largely due to the efforts of Frances Titus (1816-1894).
Titus was Truth's confidant, biographer and traveling companion from 1867
until her death in 1883.
Like many Quakers, Titus was also an ardent abolitionist, suffragist and
advocate for the
rights of the oppressed. (from the Ashley collection, Battle Creek, MI)
