Martin Ashley
Martin Ashley was born in Battle Creek and is a graduate of
Battle Creek Central High School. He received an Associate degree from Kellogg Community
College, and is currently employed by K-mart. Ashley is an ordained deacon and elder of
the First Presbyterian Church and serves as church historian. He has been a member of the
Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Battle Creek as well as historian and
trustee of Oak Hill Cemetery. Ashley serves as a regular volunteer in the archives of the
Historical Society and was one of the authors of the Gold-In-Flakes pictorial
history of the origins of the Battle Creek Cereal industry, recently completed by Heritage
Publications. In May 1997 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Historic
District Commission.
